The 0040's - Shaken not Stirred 

The brief for this project was to record the 0040's, a 3 piece jazz / rock n'roll band at a live venue, select the best songs and then roll them into a 3 track demo for potential customers.

Like many bands, it was important to get the real sound of the band and not something that had been tampered and tweaked with many over dubs.

The band were recorded onto the AW2400 via microphone or direct input depending on the instrument as follows:

DRUMS: the live kit was mic'd as follows; Kick AKG D112; Snare  SM57; Toms AKG C418; Overheads 2x AKG C1000s. Both the Kick & Snare where then routed through th PA to add substance to the venue sound.

BASS: DI into the Desk

KEYBOARDS: DI into the desk and then routed to the PA to add substance to the venue sound

VOCALS: SM58 Radio mic into the desk and then routed into the PA.

When back in the studio the tracks were EQ'd, Reverbs added where appropriate, Compression added where appropriate, mixed and mastered.

Interestingly, the overhead mics picked up some very good crowd noise which really adds to the performance especially where the bands front man gets the crowd involved in the music.

The sleeve artwork consisted of a black background incorporating the classic Bond rifled barrel with the bands name at the end. The artwork came from some ideas the band had and were designed and produced by Jade Elephant Studios.

The band were impressed with the quality of the recording and have subsequently asked for more copies plus they are looking to book some time to put together a undertake studio recording.
